Event Advisory – April 24 and 25 Leading Solar CEOs and Policymakers Convene at the State Capitol to Explore How Texas Can Become a Solar Leader Billions of dollars of economic opportunity and thousands of tech jobs available if Texas acts quickly
(April 18, 2008 – Austin) Leading international solar company CEOs, buyers, developers and financiers will gather at next week’s Texas Solar Forum at the State Capitol to examine this industry’s rapid growth and the economic opportunity it presents for Texas.
“Texas, with its vibrant sunshine, growing population and economy, and business-friendly environment is an ideal location to explore solar deployment opportunities as First Solar expands our business platform and leads the industry’s expansion into large scale solar energy production,” said First Solar CEO and Forum speaker Michael Ahearn.
"Texas has a short window of opportunity to become a solar leader and harvest the economic gains that will touch the chemical, semiconductor, manufacturing, equipment, power electronics, and energy services across Texas,” adds Joel Serface, director of the Clean Energy Incubator. “A robust Texas solar market would not only provide clean energy, but would create tens of thousands of tech jobs and billions of dollars in economic activity.”
The event will examine the opportunity from a multitude of industry perspectives, including solar manufacturers, buyers, homebuilders, retailers, and financiers. The Forum will include presentations from the following industry leaders:
· Assistant Secretary Alexander Karsner – U.S. Department of Energy, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy · Mr. Michael Ahearn – CEO, First Solar · Dr. Charles Gay – VP & GM for Solar Business Group, Applied Materials · Mr. Pat Wood – Former Chairman, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and Public Utilities Commission of Texas · Chairman Barry Smitherman – Public Utilities Commission of Texas · Commissioner Paul Hudson – Public Utilities Commission of Texas · Mr. Jigar Shah – Founder and CSO, SunEdison · Dr. B.
