Comment no 12, In response to your post: Right on.

So many things have been complicated by government interference, our rights being stripped away for 'the good of the people'. Which people are we talking about here? I fail to see how being unable to distill my own ethanol (or grow my own marijuana, or practice my religion as I see fit) helps any 'People' except the people that are out to make money by me NOT being able to do those things: the petroleum industry would surely loose money if I was no longer paying them $3.45 for a gallon of gasoline, local police departments would surely loose funding if it was no longer illegal for me to use a God-given plant as I see fit... The only 'people' that these laws protect are the people that have us by the balls in the first place, and these laws are specifically designed to keep it that way.

To draw a parallel in regards to home distillation: the war on drugs has forced many substance users/abusers/addicts into funding the black market and living their lives as criminals. When gasoline costs $10/gallon, and I can distill my own ethanol for $2.50/gallon, or buy it from my dealer down the street for $5/gallon, how many 'Average law abiding citizens' are going to think it is completely sane to keep buying gasoline when they can get ethanol illegaly for a fraction of the price?

But maybe that is not a totally fair comparison, since there has to be some way that it is legal for me to distill my own ethanol for fuel(though I imagine given the strict regulations surrounding distilling for ANY reasons it is not an easy or cheap process to acquire some kind of permit for it).

Where do people think electricity comes from anyway? Electricity is a very ineffecient source of energy when you weigh in the cost in terms of oil, natural gas, coal, distribution costs, etc. I am still amazed when people think electric cars are the answer to our transportation problems.

Big oil companies think that this is a bad idea to use ethanol as a fuel, and that there is all sorts of things that it won't do, so don't take stock in this, no way this is the solution to artifically jacked up gas in which they are making billions...........

If you use hemp to produce the ethanol you greatly reduce the costs of production.Hemp uses less water than corn and can be grown in less time with much higher yields by acre.
