Making Your Own Bath Salts

The word aromatherapy is commonly used in conjunction with bath salts. Aromatherapy is the use of scents to aid the mind and body with the relaxation process. The oils used in scented candles, potpourri, and in homemade bath salts are gathered from the essential oils gathered from plants. The essential oils obtained from variety of plants give a different smell on the scented item. Different smells can trigger a diverse array of reactions and emotions is what the aromatherapy experts say.


You can turn a bubble bath into a aromatic utopia by adding scented bath oils to the water. High price is a problem with many of the scented bath salts and oils which are easily available for purchase at quite a few spas and boutiques. If you make your own bath salts, you can achieve the pleasure of bath time aromatherapy without spending a fortune.

Don't be afraid to get the whole family involved when you set out to make your own bath salts. A fun idea to plan for your child's sleep over or birthday party is to make your own bath salts. When the party is over, each child takes home some of the bath salts they made themselves. If you are at a loss for birthday and Christmas gifts you may want to use the homemade bath salts for gifts. People you know will be delighted after finding out that one can make your own bath salts.

Bath salts don't create themselves out of thin air. When you are making your own bath salts you'll need to gather the ingredients before starting. The ingredients you need to make your own bath salts are Epsom salt, (or Dead Sea salt), a small bottle of essential oil (the scent you choose is based on personal preference), and baking soda. Food color can be added to the baking soda to make your homemade bath salts more visually appealing. Using jars to contain the bathing salts is ideal.

You would be happy to know that the recipe to make your own bath salts is very easy to follow to the extent that you can compare it to making macaroni and cheese. The first thing you'll need to do is to mix several drops of the essential oil, 2 teaspoons of baking soda, and 2 cups of the salt together. When the mixture is thoroughly combined, pour the mixture into a glass container. Make sure to tighten the jar. You are now ready to enjoy a bubble bath scented with your own homemade bath salts.
